I see the residue and remnants of culture everywhere. It presses against, bumps into and piles up onto itself, over and over again. The history of humankind can never be experienced or expressed in isolation and my work forms connection points between seemingly disparate forces. I find the continual remixing of cultural material to be a procedure full of compelling contradictions, overlapping accidents and layered poetic meaning that provide a supple network from which I respond in my studio activities. Color and shape are always in dialogue in my print and object based works to develop an idiosyncratic abstract language that is rooted in a belief in the power of leftovers and remnants. This believe was concretized by my formal education in printmaking and book arts; a landscape of tools, materials and techniques. It is through this realm of possibilities that I am able to bring into focus the tension between tradition and experimentation, limitation and freedom. I believe that an engagement with preexisting forms to be our link to the components of culture and allow an understanding of their mutability as they enter unintended collisions with other forms and context. It is in this spirit that I deploy content using print, paper and objects both found and fabricated.
