Informed by Minimalism, horror movie special effects, and personal ideas of comfort and pleasure, Jonathan Talit utilizes household objects that have essential everyday functions but are otherwise mundane. He repurposes these objects into sculptures that are defiant, noble and significant. What results is an unnerving reproduction of juxtaposing notions that are at the same time intriguing and familiar. With Bloom, Talit creates an anthropomorphic sculpture out of clay and tar. Jagged organic shapes resembling teeth protrude from different parts of the sculpture while a special shellac provides a fleshy sheen. A native of Lakeland, Florida, in 2014 Talit received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture from Boston University. He currently is a Master of Fine Arts candidate at the University of South Florida.
