A tribute to Tampa’s fresh waters, Hungarian-born artist Lászlo Hórváth often photographed the Hillsborough River to document its natural beauty and wildlife. For Hórváth, his experiences hiking and kayaking along the river provided endless sources of inspiration, calling it “the last sanctuary to free my soul and escape from today’s increasingly intimidating world.” In Dancing Limpkin, the artist captures the crane-like Limpkin in midair, hovering just above the water’s surface as if in dance. The close-up perspective of the photograph places the viewer directly in front of the bird’s path, as floating on the surface of the river and sharing in the drama of this rare scene.
