Riverview, 2012
acrylic on canvas
36 x 48 inches
With a refined palette of yellows, greens, and blues, Riverview captures a moment of twilight along the landscape of Riverview, FL. Presumably depicting dawn, Hart documents the rising sun in a calculated flurry of yellow Impressionist brush strokes emanating from the lower left corner of the painting. An expansive and subtly turbulent Florida sky occupies the largest portion of the canvas, dwarfing the loosely rendered trees and river beneath it, reminding the viewer of his or her own insignificance in relation to the scope and beauty of the natural world.
In keeping with the tradition of ¬Impressionist painters like Monet, Hart takes liberties with his color palette and mark making to present a vision of Central Florida landscape, paying close attention to the shifting qualities of light and atmosphere in order to capture the essence of the scene.
