David Briand is a painter who combines repurposed material such as wood, paper, and blueprints to create rich, dimensional surfaces for what the artist calls “conceptual landscapes.” To create Sea Foam, Briand layered saturated fabric over a large panel. He then twisted and pulled the fabric in different directions to achieve complex textures that become reminiscent of waves or organic matter. Pale blues and greens swirl around the composition, underscored by a line of reddish-brown that suggests a horizon or ground. Through abstraction, the painting conveys Briand’s appreciation for nature, recalling the rhythms, patterns, and atmosphere of Florida’s landscape.
