Kurt Piazza is a multi-media artist working primarily in video, installation, photography and performance. His recent work explores the notion that physical space has a history, and that architecture can serve as a metaphor for the concepts of time and space. This body of work explores the ideas of phenomenality, spectrality, and phantomality. The architectural photographs are reduced to the purity of black and white, and finally reproduced as large-scale xerox prints. Through this process, these manipulated architectural forms are transformed into a ghostly silhouette. The scale suggests the notion of the sublime, and the grainy reproductions serve as metaphor for the death of the object.
