Selina Román’s Untitled (Tubes #3) from the series Confidence Tastes Like a Low-Slung Cloud, presents a faceless female figure to viewers. The inaccessibility achieved by being unable to see the figure’s face forces viewers to explore and question the surrounding landscape for meaning. In Román’s own words, “By employing the use of props, humorous and awkward gestures, concealment and desolate landscapes, I create a quiet resistance that subverts traditional ideas of femininity and contemplates the idea that there is power in untoward behavior and anonymity.”
