Drawn from Anthony Record’s Fossil Record series, this loose yet detailed work on paper occupies the space between representational and abstract, inviting viewers to engage their perception and imagination. Often depicting animals from the Mesozoic Era, the forms suggest a pair of theropods—are they dancing, dapping, or entwined underground in some ancient embrace? Inspired by the primordial forms of kudzu-entangled Floridian trees—reminiscent of galaxy formations—Record uses visual ambiguity in the natural landscape to explore deep time and the ghost-like presence of past and future in everyday life. Anthony Record is the curator at Lighthouse ArtCenter and formerly served as curator at the Museum of Florida Art and Culture (2022–2024). This work of art is a part of the HCC Permanent Art Collection. Through its Campus Loan Outreach Program, HCC Art Galleries seek to share original works by collecting a diversity of art for the education and enjoyment of the HCC Community.
