Description

The Official History of Australia in the War of 1914-1918 is a 12-volume series covering Australia's involvement in the First World War. The series was edited by the official historian Charles Bean, who also wrote volumes one to six, with the series being published between 1921 and 1942. With their familiar covers, once described by one reviewer as "the colour of dried blood", these books rapidly became highly regarded internationally, with Bean's work establishing the tradition which set the standard for all subsequent Australian official war histories.
