RAAF Service Tunic (Winter)Entry/Object ID
2025.20Description
RAAF blue wool service dress tunic with plain breast pockets and a pair of expanding hip pockets with rectangular flaps. No belt is present. A centre back vent extends from the back waist to the bottom of the skirt. There is evidence of a badge sewn above the left breast pocket, however this has been removed.
The front of the tunic and the pockets are fastened with black bakelite buttons, which feature an eagle and King's crown. A small welt pocket is set into the right waist behind the line of the belt position. Unlike the WW2 version, this tunic has no internal welt pockets.
The sleeves have the RAAF eagle at both shoulders, with the rank patch of Leading Aircraftsman on both upper sleeves just above the elbow. The left sleeve has the qualification patch of Wireless Operator sewn between the RAAF eagle and the rank patch.
A manufacturer's label for 'Estelle Suits' is attached to the inside right breast, with the date 28 November 1951 stamped vertically on the righthand side.Clothing/Dress/Costume Details
