Use
During the early part of World War Two, the Australian Army issued their soldiers with woollen anklets for use in the field, unlike their British counterparts, who were issued webbing. Brown-green in colour, these were worn over a soldier’s boots to protect the ankles and feet. A number of variations were produced, however, the majority appear to have fastened with three (3) plastic buttons.
Used in the desert until the mid war period, they were later used for the remainder of the war by the Volunteer Defence Corps.
