RAAF Service Tunic (Winter)Entry/Object ID
2025.19Description
Officer's RAAF blue wool winter service dress tunic with a pair of pleated breast patch pockets and a pair of expanding patch waist pockets. The pockets have flaps secured by gilt metal RAAF buttons featuring the Queen's crown. The flaps on the breast pockets have three points, while those at the waist are square. Unlike the WW2 version, there are no internal pockets.
The tunic is fastened by four large gilt metal RAAF buttons, no belt is present, however, the rear of the tunic has small brass hooks for attachment. The rank stripe of Pilot Officer appears on each sleeve with a Citizen Air Force patch on both shoulders.
After WW2 there was a Citizen Air Force, which had a patch based on the original Australian Flying corp (1917-1919). This was a reserve unit of the RAAF.
A manufacturer's label for 'C.G.C.F.' (Commonwealth Government Clothing Factory) is attached to the inside collar and inside right breast.Clothing/Dress/Costume Details
