Description

A wooden box with glass cover containing the following items: RAAF Cap Badge dating from 1941; A small B&W photo (copy) of Flt Lt Osmond; Medal group WW1 - WW2 comprising of (L-R): British War Medal 1914-20 Victory Medal 1914-1919 1939-1945 Star Pacific Star Defence Medal War Medal 1939-1945 Australian Service Medal 1939-1945 The WW1 medals are inscribed with the recipient's service number, rank, name and unit on the rim of the medal. All WW2 awards are inscribed with the recipient's name and rank. The original photograph (2023.16.2) was damaged by the BluTack adhesive used to attach it to the box and has been relocated to a separate binder for conservation. It has been replaced by a copy for display purposes.

Use

Private George Alfred OSMOND served in the 1st Signal Squadron and 8th Light Horse in Egypt and Palestine, during WW1. In 1941, Osmond enlisted into the RAAF as a Flight Lieutenant, retaining his civilian role of a chaplain. Serving in the Northern Territory (NT) from 17/5/1943 - 27/5/1944, he was posted to the South West Pacific Area from 12/12/1944 - 08/12/1945.
