Meat ration card. "S" 204171 (the "S" indicates this was distributed for South Australian use), issued by the Commonwealth of Australia and dated 1948. Name of person to whom issued is written in black ink. This card has 64 remaining stamps.

Use

Rationing regulations for food and clothing were gazetted in Australia on 14 May 1942. Rationing was introduced to manage shortages and control civilian consumption. It was enforced by the use of coupons and was limited to clothing, tea, sugar, butter, and meat. The ration of meat was gazetted on 14 January 1944 and abolished June 1948. Adults were allowed 2 1/4 lbs per week.
