Use
Issued to military personnel by the Department of Defence, it showed they had helped the war effort by serving their country. Returned servicemen and women were sometimes wrongfully accused of showing disloyalty to their country because they were not in uniform, and wearing the badge helped avoid this. A certificate provided authentication and a number was often stamped on the reverse.
This badge was issued to Corporal Euphemia Margaret Cram, Service No. 107566, who enlisted in the RAAF on February 22, 1943.
Born in Mount Gambier, South Australia on March 9, 1920, Euphemia was employed for 6 years as a housekeeper and cook for a private family. During her WAAF service, Corporal Cram was based at the No. 2 Bombing and Gunnery School in Port Pirie, and the No. 6 S.F.T.S. in Mallala South Australia, and East Sale in Victoria. Euphemia was discharged on February 8, 1946 and awarded the War Medal 1939-45, the Australian Service Medal 1939-45 and a General Service Badge, No. AF 101854.
Euphemia died in 1999 at the age of 79 and is buried at the Springvale Botanical Cemetery in Victoria, Australia.
