Four students from The Swedish Hospital School of Nursing enjoyed a day of bicycling at Lake Calhoun (now known as Bde Maka Ska) in 1940. Along the way, they met some new friends. The Swedish Hospital merged with St. Barnabas hospital in 1971 to become Metropolitan Medical Center. That institution closed in 1991. Hennepin Healthcare now occupies the buildings.
