Bank counter

Description

Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce wooden counter with glass top, glass partitions for paper slips, and 4 pen stands.

Use

Used by bank customers to complete deposit and withdrawal slips.

Context

The counter came from the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce at what is now the Bard and Banker, 1022 Government St. The building is on the register of Canada's Historic Places. CIBC was created by the merging of the Imperial and Commerce Banks in 1961. Earlier artifacts might be from the Bank of British Columbia, housed in that building, but bought by the Bank of Commerce in 1901. Robert Service worked there for a few years some time between 1896 and 1903. https://www.timescolonist.com/islander/our-history-island-helped-shape-robert-service-4610355
