The Caretaker's Farm HouseDescription
A 1178 Sq. Ft. home with a full basement and adjoining carport. SHAS had this home professionally designed. The design and plans were donated by the designer to the society. $2,600 was collected by donation from members and from some special events. All the lumber was milled by SHAS. A $25,000 B C Lottery grant was obtained to match one third of the cost of the project. A contract was let for the foundation and basement. The framing was done by SHAS volunteers and then a contract was let for finishing the home. Balance of costs was covered by issuing debentures to members. The house was rented as soon as completed and has carried itself by repaying the debentures and expenses.
