Davis Bovie Electro Surgery Unit Made: around 1930 Maker: Davis Bovie USDescription
In 1931, American William Bovie patented the first commercial electrosurgical device. Electro Surgery operates in the 200Khz to 3.3 Mhz frequency range and is used for surgical cutting and cauterizing. Electric current in these frequencies can cut tissue without inducing muscular contraction. Bovie used such knowledge to create his electrosurgical device and he first employed it in neurosurgical cases. Bleeding had been the significant obstacle in neurosurgery until Bovie and Cushing began to employ the device in 1926
This unit dates from the mid 1930’s and was used up until the 1950’s at Resthaven. ElectroSurgery is frequently employed as a surgical procedure in a wide variety of circumstances.
