Description

A wooden moulding plane to cut multiple decorative small beading.

Use

Plane originally had a fence controlled by wedges to control the distance from the beading to the board's edge. The beading could have been used on its own or in conjunction with other moulding planes to make elaborate mouldings.

Context

The maker was Bewley, of Leeds, in the UK, who was active from 1785 to 1847. There are owners' stamps for I. Winder and L. Holliday.
