Description

Wooden half barrel style washtub with handles, hinged lid and metal spout. Called the New Idea Washer, it was manufactured by Cummer - Dowswell Limited, Hamilton Ontario. Patented 1907-1910.

Use

This wash tub was placed on a stand. Advertising claimed: "Cummer-Dowswell's New Idea Hand Washer is very easy to operate. It is the rub-board type and is fitted with two heavy steel springs at bottom of tub. which swing the tub back and forth by a straight pull of the handle." The Hamilton Spectator Friday May 14. 1915 page 21 Later models added a wringer stand.
