Description

Wide skew rabbet plane with wooden fence , screw adjustable depth stop, and nicker for cross grain work.

Use

Used to put a rebate on the edge of a board, capable of working both with and across the grain with adjustable width fence and depth stop. A single nicker blade is in a wedge shaped housing ahead of the main blade to cut the cross grain.

Context

Made by Greenfield Tool Company, Greenfield, Massachusetts, Catalogue number 279, with nice brass fittings. Has an interesting owner's? mark on the left hand side. Has been slightly abused with metal hammer marks on the ends, and the edge of the nicker housing has been split away with excess pressure.
