Description

A very high quality double-bodied plane designed to produce an attractive moulding in varying widths.

Use

This plane would produce a moulding with a rebate on one edge, and an ogee ( "S" shaped) shape on the other. The width of the moulding could be varied by changing the thickness of the spacer (user made) between the two bodies.

Context

The plane is very well made and intended to withstand hard work. Boxwood strips are let into the beech bodies to give a much harder surface at the expected wear points. The thumbscrews and their blind nuts are a signature of high quality. Plane wear is only slight, the cutter surfaces are pitted by age and storage rather than use. It would need only a little work to bring back to working condition. The wedges have taken a beating getting them out after swelling from flood water, but they are still useable.
