Nugget cook stove manufactured by Albion Iron Works, Victoria BC. The range is made of cast iron and steel. It has a warming oven on top, a side table and two moveable metal shelves. There are six lids, one of which has three opening sizes, a lid lifter, a towel drying rod and towel rack. There are many decorative details including an elaborate medallion on the oven door.Context
"ALBION IRON WORKS, one of the major industrial enterprises in late 19th-century BC, was at one time the largest iron works north of San Francisco, employing 230 workers and occupying a 1.5-ha site. Founded in VICTORIA in 1872 by Capt Joseph Spratt, and owned at one time by the prominent industrialists Robert DUNSMUIR and R.P. RITHET, it manufactured machinery, boilers, steam engines, water pipes and cast-iron storefronts and stoves."
