Hoosier cabinet

Description

Oak hoosier cabinet with upper and lower cabinets and a work surface. Upper cabinets include: one double cupboard with two shelves; three spice shelves made of tin; and one single cupboard housing a tin flour bin with a glass panel and sifter. This Canadian made Royal Kitchen Cabinet was manufactured by the Hamm and Nott Company Limited, Brantford Ontario.

Use

This type of free-standing kitchen cabinet also served as a workstation. It was popular between 1900-1930 when most houses did not have built in kitchen cabinetry.
