Victoria was the home of the first commercial brewery in Western Canada.
The Victoria Brewery was established in 1858. In 1893, Victoria Brewing and Ice merged with the Phoenix Brewery to form the Victoria-Phoenix Brewing Company.

Silver Spring Brewery was incorporated in 1902. In 1928, the company was amalgamated into Coast Breweries Ltd., and in 1959 was dissolved when absorbed by Lucky Lager Breweries Ltd.
