Injector - Metropolitan Large (restored)

Description

Metropolitan large steam injector, restored. From Cape Breton Navy Depot Ship Injectors are a device used to replenish the water in a steam engine boiler as it is in use. This example, the Metropolitan "1898" is one of a series manufactured by the Hayden & Derby Mtg. Co. of New York for use in steam locomotives. They were made in a variety of sizes depending on the delivery capacity in gallons per hour required. Injectors use the venturi principle to convert steam pressure from the boiler into a force capable of lifting water from the supply tanks and deliver it into the boiler through a check valve. The "198" series were "double tube" injectors, the first stage lifting the water and delivering it to the second stage that in turn forces it into the boiler. This example is one of the largest Haydon & Derby made.
