Top hat and leather hat box

Description

Black top hat made by Scott & Co. with leather carrying case. The hat label reads: " Extra Quality By Appointment Scott & Co. Hatters to H.M. the King and The Royal Family, 1. Old Bond Street Piccadilly W." The leather hat box is marked Lord Rodney Royal Scots Greys and has a 'Canadian Pacific Pier Head Liverpool' label.

Context

George Bridges Harley Guest Rodney (1891-1973) was a British soldier and peer, a member of the House of Lords. During WW1 he served with the Royal Scots Greys, and later emigrated to Canada. A plaque at his grave reads: George Bridges Harley Guest Rodney, 8th Baron November 2nd1891-December 18th 1973 In this cemetery rests Lord Rodney, the world's first scout. He was the first youth to sign the register at the original Scout camp August 1-9, 1907 on Brownsea Island in England.
