Brass tobacco box that belonged to Jim Nelson. Contains newspaper explaining the origin of the box - dated Saturday August 3, 1974
Slightly discolored, rust puncture (small) on lid. Small dents on bottom edges. Unpolished. This box was owned by a man named Jim Nelson who was a wagon builder for George Little, Casey Braam found this box when he bought the home from Jim NelsonUse

This little brass box was given to the 'old contemptible' who fought in the first World War. The boxes were handed out at breakfast in the line at Christmas 1914. The boxes were sent as greetings from King George V and Queen Mary with a Christmas card enclosed. also enclosed in the box was a greeting card and a picture from princess Mary, only child of King George V and Queen Mary. Many of the soldiers who received a brass box are still alive and all of them kept their boxes. The men who called each other 'chum' cant really explain why this box means so much, while other personal mementos from the war were discarded long agoContext
