Description

Japanese embroidered Cross stitched tabled cloth, motif is Rickshaws (Hand embroidered) rectangular. Under close inspection the hood of Rickshaws has swastika on it.

Use

After the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbour, the Vancouver Militia made a raid on the Japanese Embassy. The Embassy, however, was deserted. This tablecloth was taken from the embassy. Embroidered on the hoods of the rickshaws were swastikas. The new owner, Maria Clara Gauthier dit Gents, was terrified she would be considered a Nazi sympathizer, so she attemped to cover them up with more embroidery. Close inspection of the tablecloth will reveal the swastikas.
