The through bolt on the side plate has been replaced with a modern square nut and bolt. It is missing its ram rod. Inactive due to internal parts of the lock that are completely rusted over and seized and the top part of the cock (part that holds flint) is broken off and missing.

Context

Muzzle loading musket, found along the Skeena River in the woods by Tony Hipp. To load, a measure of powder is poured down the barrel, then a greased wad is added against the powder. The lead shot was added, along with another greased wad. This was all pushed down the barrel with the ram rod. To fire, the trigger was pulled, which caused the hammer to strike the flint causing a spark. This ignited the powder, and the shot was forced out the barrel. Because the shot does not rifle, or spiral, the musket is only accurate at short distances.
