Description

Tom Thornhill was born in Victoria, B.C. 1855. He became a blacksmith and moved to the Fraser Valley to ply his trade. Here, about 1890, he met Eliza, a Kitselas native. She, like many other Natives, worked in the salmon canneries in the Skeena River Estuary in the fall, then many were taken down to the Fraser Valley to harvest hops. Here she and Tom met, and returned to this area in 18892 where they built a log cabin on the Skeena River Bank, just below Little canyon. Tom was the first white man to settle in this area. Eliza had a trapline on Liza Creek, named after her. Liza passed away in 1906 and Tom died in the Prince Rupert Hospital in 1910
