On June 26, 1853, the Fort Edward Village Board of Trustees voted to create a fire company and build an engine house. Money was authorized by the electorate for the purchase of suction hose, hooks, ladders, and buckets, as well as for four hundred feet of leather hose. This appears to be the start of organized firefighting within the Village of Fort Edward. This is the story of first 100 years of the George Satterlee Hose Company, with photographs.
