Abraham Yates Jr. and the New Political Order in Revolutionary New YorkEntry/Object ID
08.32.8Description
"Abraham Yates, Jr., of Albany, NY was one of the most important Revolutionary figures in upstate New York. He mobilized and led the colonial rebellion in Albany, chaired the committee which produced the first state constitution, and went on to become one of Governor George Clinton's closest political allies and one of the most powerful members of the new state legislature. He was also an astute political thinker and writer, and his political essays, published under a variety of pseudonyms, were well known in New York's political circles. Few figures in Revolutionary New York rose so far and so fast; few men of humble origins aroused a more intense dislike among those who believed that society should be governed by the privileged few.
"The story of the Albany revolutionist provides insights into the political development of American society." Copied from the forward of the book
