This collection contains Sarah Fitch Poates' diary which covers 1863/65. Sarah, who was from Salem, NY, and the daughter of Dr. Asa Fitch, married a Mississippi planter and spent the Civil War years in the South. The opening letters were written by May Agnes Marston, her granddaughter, who, in turn, was the grandmother of Eleanor Lourie (the compiler of this collection).
