Note

Notes: Consulted with HCF staff (Jon, Kris, Katherine, Valerie) and others (Harlan Greene, Kevin Eberle, Gene Waddell) as to the identify/location of this house. Valerie and Gene were of the opinion that it is not a Charleston house. -----Original Message----- From: Waddell, Eugene [mailto:WADDELLE@cofc.edu] Sent: Tuesday, November 08, 2005 9:35 AM To: Emmons, Karen Subject: RE: Mystery House - Can You Identify? Karen, I do not recall having seen this building before, and I am all but certain that it is not and never was in Charleston. I also do not recall having seen chimneys joined together in Charleston as are shown on the adjacent house in the photo. There are some examples of this feature in the Upcountry of South Carolina, but the adjacent building appears to be a row house somewhere to the north. I have seen similar houses in Richmond, but they are more common in Pennsylvania than farther south. Gene More indication that it's not a Charleston House: 2/19/2010, Kristopher King: this house can't be in charleston, as it has snow catches on the slate roof and stone foundation (for ground freeze). 2/19/2010, Cynthia Coker: If you look at the chimneys of the building to the left of the subject building, you will see a unique two part chimney with a window between the chimneys that I am not sure exists in Charleston. If it does, it would be only in an early building.
