Constructed 1971. 17 Reid street is a modern vernacular house characteristic of the 1970s suburban architecture in its materials, plan, placement on the lot. It is in poor condition structurally and cosmetically. The one story house is set back approximately 25 feet to create a front yard, with narrow setbacks to the east and west property lines and small overgrown back yard. The house is elevated approximately two feet off the ground with an enclosed crawl space skirted with brick. The building has been slated for demolition. It is located in Hampstead Village, part of the upper east side of Charleston.
File contains graduate student report (Joseph Reynolds, 2010) on the history of the house, which includes historical and chain-of-title research, maps, photos, and other supporting documentation.
