Charleston Sites After 1911 HurricaneEntry/Object ID
2017.008.11a-eDescription
Five photographic postcards (scans) showing Charleston sites after the hurricane of 1911:
a: View of The Battery with damaged railings. Two women walking. Sailing ship close by in the water. Missroon House and the Carolina Yacht Club in the background.
b: Hurricane debris at the Consumer Coal Company wharf, located on the Cooper River at Concord Street.
c-d: Hurricane debris on Middle Atlantic Wharf in front of the W.H. Shingler & Co. building. Shows the railroad tracks in front and a boat that washed aground. Photo C is a more expansive view of the scene. Photo D has "1910" handwritten on the photo but the date was likely added much later and is incorrect.
e: South Battery across from White Point Gardens after the storm.
