Constructed ca. 1850. Part of a grouping of buildings at 46-52 Anson Street, this two-story house was constructed separately and was in the possession of Thomas Wallace, a dry goods merchant. It is unusual in its setback from the street and L shape. A one-story shop formerly stood in front and served through much of the late 1800s as a barbershop (Poston, Buildings of Charleston).
Three files contain: documentation of the easement on the property including related correspondence and Confirmation of Understanding; Part I certification (National Register); easement appraisal report and IRS form 8283; annual inspection reports; requests for alterations; FOHG house histories and description of furnishings; handwritten research notes (undated, unattributed); photocopy of photo of 46 Anson Street "ARP" (see ANSON.046.002B); newspaper articles (including DYKYC, 1971); historical research and supporting documentation compiled by Sarah Fick in preparation for Part I certification application (includes summary history, source list; Sanborn maps, will of Moses Andrews); historical research report (Butler, 2021).
