Scope and Content

Constructed ca. 1851; rehabilitated mid-1960s. One of two brick single houses constructed by Charleston factor Robert M. Venning, and part of a complex of four Venning Houses near the corner of Anson and Society Streets. Characteristic of Ansonborough single houses but unusual in the tall, narrow window openings, with 9-over-9 light window sashes, and kitchen buildings placed perpendicular to the rear of the main structures. File contains: an old house history; photocopy of ARP photo; News & Courier DYKYC article dated 11/7/1970, "New Styles Failed to Attract Robert Venning."
