Constructed ca. 1851; rehabilitated mid-1960s. One of two brick single houses constructed by Charleston factor Robert M. Venning, and part of a complex of four Venning Houses near the corner of Anson and Society Streets. Characteristic of Ansonborough single houses but unusual in the tall, narrow window openings, with 9-over-9 light window sashes, and kitchen buildings placed perpendicular to the rear of the main structures. The house at 60 Anson Street has a flat parapeted roofline and is a near duplicate of the building at 43 Society Street, built by Venning ca. 1840 (Poston, Buildings of Charleston).
Three files contain: documentation of the covenant on the property; documentation related to the sale of the property; annual inspection reports; requests for alterations; documentation related to management of the property; FOHG house history (1999); historical/research information; copy of HCF easement information card (TMS number, year of construction, significant resident(s), deed research, deed restrictions, measurements, and tax information).
