My dear Mama
I have a letter/ from Papa by this morning's/ post. He says you are just/ getting ready to go and listen/ to the charming music at/ the U. S. Hotel. Saratoga has this advantage over many / other places of amusement/ that you can have so much/ pleasure without making/ any personal effort to obtain/ it. The Hotel is not at all/ full here tho' I understand/ the rooms are all engaged. The clergyman Mr. Tracy/ has preached for us twice./ He has called to see me and seems disposed to be/ quite friendly. He is begin/ning to organize a Sunday/ school and Claude has offered/ to assist him. Claude goes/ over to the church tomorrow/ at 10 o'clock with my chil/dren and the work will/ begin in earnest. Caroline/ is here looking well and/ cheerful. Aunt Sue worried/ on the subject of servants/ The boat [continues?] a great/ pleasure. Edmund takes/ some ladies out occasion/ally which I like to en/courage as I think it/ is a civilizing amusement./ Poor Mary has been quite/ sick and still looks/ miserably. The learned Dr. has gone this morning/ to [invest?] in drugs for her/ Mrs. Allen Izard is here/ just arrived so I suppose/ she has abandoned/ the ?Fishers this summer/ I want you to tell me which/ of the bedrooms upstairs/ you would like me to/ get ready for you. It will/ be better not to have the/ bother of moving after you/ arrive. We expect the/ Sewing Society to go into/ operations in a few days./ But so fat we hear nothing/ from Mr. Whitehead who/ became such an expert/ assistant. He is enjoying/ a little hollyday [sic] no doubt/ Love to Papa - Children all out - Affect.
