Scope and Content

Constructed 1907. Typical Charleston single house with enclosed piazzas, located at the corner of Ashley Avenue and Bogard Street. Hurricane Hugo caused extensive damage to the house. HCF purchased the house through its Neighborhood Impact Initiative and stabilized it through the Crafts Training Program, with "sweat equity" contributed by the home owner. No additional history on file. Needs further research. Four files contain documentation and related correspondence related to the covenant; documentation related to the purchase of the property and rehabilitation work needed; correspondence related to the sale of the property; annual inspection reports; correspondence and other documentation related to the repairs and renovation of the house including by the owner and HCF, e.g., Agreement, Specifications (N.I.I.), Scope of Work, etc.; chain-of-title records and research notes; photocopies of 1942 Sanborn map and 1996 plat; captioned newspaper photograph showing Crafts Training Program participant; data sheet for CharlestonWISE Impact Project (Sustainability Institute) that includes construction date, square footage, number of stories, building orientation, system materials/types, Sanborn Map research notes, and additions/alterations notes (Mariah Schwartz, 2011); SC Dept. of Archives and History architectural survey form; Neighborhood Impact Initiative memorandum (Houlihan, 1998) and property description. No inspection photographs on file (see Easement Manager).
