BARRE.076.001Scope and Content
Possibly built as an overseer's house in connection with Gov. Thomas Bennett Jr.'s sawmills and rice mills in the area, dating the house is virtually impossible as the site is part of a large area acquired by Gov. Bennett and his father, Thomas Bennett, in the early part of the 19th century. It first appears on an 1852 map but is believed to be a decade older because of the style of the interior woodwork. Gov. Bennett never lived in the house; he resided across the street at 69 Barre Street. (Source: DYKYC)
