Entry/Object ID

Scope and Content

This 2½ story house just south of the College of Charleston survived plans to raze it for a new parking garage. It was moved to [72 Beaufain] and survived more than a decade without repairs. It even withstood Hurricane Hugo. Unfortunately, owner neglect caused the building's collapse. The house had existed in the 1790s and had beaded weatherboarding and 9-over-9 light windows. Still, it ranked the lowest score possible on the city's ranking of historic buildings. The Preservation Society made efforts to save the house. File contains newspaper article "Battle to Save Historic House Lost to Neglect," 11/12/1994. No image on file.
