Portrait of Lord Lyttelton, (Royal Governor William Henry) By George Romney (1734-1802). Waist Length Portrait of Man in White Wig and Red State Robes Banded in White, with Heavy Gold Chain Across Breast. Inscription in Hte Upper Right Corner Reads "W.H. Lord Lyttelton Atat. 72/G.R. Pinx."William Henry Lyttelton Was Royal Governor of South Carolina From 1755-61. Born December 24, 1724, He Was the Sixth Son of Sir Thomas Lyttelton, the Fourth Barolnet of Hagley Hall, and Christian Temple of Stowe. Educated At Eton and Oxford, M.P., Arrived in Charleston 1756 and Worked Closely with Lt. Gov. William Bull Ii. As Governor, Lyttelton Confronted the Acadian Refugees, the Seven Years War, the Cherokee Raids of 1759 and a Slave Rebellion. Transfered in 1762 To Jamaica But Was Recalled in 1766 To Become Ambassador To Portugal. Returned To England in 1771 and Re-Entered Parliament. See File For Additional InformationCollection
