Constructed 1771-1775; renovated ca. 1800 and again later in the 19th century. Thought by tradition to have been erected for the Geiger family shortly after completion of the Exchange in 1771, this structure features an early commercial floor plan on each level. At various times the room fronting Broad Street has been used as a drugstore and for retail sales. Its surviving circa 1800 woodwork is of great importance. It stands as one of the few Federal period shop interiors left in the Southeast. The German immigrant Geiger Family held the building for nearly eight years, selling it in 1854 to James McConkey.
