BROAD.103.001Scope and Content
Constructed ca. 1837; rehabilitated mid-1980s. Constructed by the grocer Peter Brase, this frame building is a good example of the Greek Revival style in commercial architecture. For more than 140 years the structure housed a variety of groceries including Brase's business, John Hurkamp & Company, the Automatic Grocery, and, finally, Piggy Wiggly supermarket, which closed this chain of occupation in 1983. The current Victorian style storefront was added in a 1984 rehabilitation.
