239 Calhoun Street (Alexander Lindstrom House)Entry/Object ID
CALHOUN.239.01Scope and Content
Constructed ca. 1885. With the gradual filling of the Bennett rice pond, Charlestonians began to buy lots for the construction of modest houses. Alexander Lindstrom, a bookkeeper, built this straightforward 2-story Charleston single house on a filled portion of Bennett's Mill Pond. The house conservatively follows the Charleston single house tradition, with 2-story side piazzas and an open front gable built just before the earthquake of 1886. With the exception of the front Italianate style window surrounds, the building uses the detailing of the late Greek Revival period.
