CHARLOTTE.021.1Description
B&W photograph of 21 Charlotte Street (Sarah Westcoat House), corner view of house.
Sarah Westcoat acquired the lot and became one of a group of women builders of houses in Mazyckborough-Wraggborough during the Victorian period. Just before the turn of the century, Emily Alice Honour added an octagonally shaped three-story tower with shingle banding after purchasing this 1870s Italianate Charleston single house with simple double-tiered piazzas. The slight indentation of the tower from the body of the main building provides a curious set-back entry door and one-bay front porch. (Poston, Buildings of Charleston.)Collection
